Norfolk State has partnered with the Chrysler Museum to bring the tradition of Mbari to Hampton Roads. The James Wise Gallery will have the exhibition Black Prometheus: The Legacy of Jacob Lawrence and Global Modernist Art of the mid-twentieth Century in connection with the Chrysler's Black Orpheus: Jacob Lawrence and the Mbari Club. The artworks in Black Prometheus are inspired by the work of Jacob Lawrence, the Mbari Artists & Writers Club, and modernist artists from around the world, who sought to move beyond the Western and Eurocentric artistic emphasis by integrating diverse cultures from around the world, blending styles and traditions. November 10's Marketplace will include the exhibition, performances, an art-making activity, and vendors selling African goods and food.
